Your Golden State Vibes is a newsletter sent out Saturday mornings, at 8:00 a.m. PST featuring stories we felt we’d share about California. It may include places to eat or drink, as well as places to visit or stay. It may also be full of human interest stories that we feel are worth reading. Enjoy the newsletter.
One of the things I find here in California, more so than back east, is respect for wildlife and their survival during wildfires.
Granted, we don’t have fires as catastrophic as those out here in California, but we do have our share, and you just don’t hear a great deal about wildlife survival or the worry of it.
So, when I read this article by Phoebe Weston in SG Gate, I wanted to share it with you so you know what’s being done and not being done for wildlife here in California.
Nowadays, when you take a trip throughout California, it isn’t just about seeing and enjoying beautiful places-it’s also about safety.
I came across this article on World Atlas the other day about Safety and Beautiful Spots Along the Pacific Coast, and after reading it, I thought it would be a good one to share with everyone.

In San Anselmo, California, there’s a little mom-and-pop store—a music store, if you will—called Amazing Grace. It has 18th-century violins hanging on the wall. It has given guitar lessons to the child of a famous producer/director and provided instruments for many of his movies.
What’s so special, you might be asking? Well, in 2004, the Mom and Pop music store almost closed down, but George Lucas came along and saved them.
Now, they pay rent to George Lucas, and as the story goes, the shop is still going strong.
This story from Bob Copper, a freelance writer for SF Gate, isn’t just charming but also shows the other side of famous people in these times.
In 1966, Anheuser Busch decided it was time to open a theme park where beer was accepted as a drink, unlike Disneyland.
At the time, Disney was kid-oriented more so than other theme parks, but for some reason, Busch went ahead and opened Nusch Gardens in Van Nuys, California.
Here’s an excellent story about the park by Julie Tremaine, SF Gate Theme Parks Contributing Editor.
How dangerous can a moth be? How much damage could a tiny fluttering moth contribute to California homes and forests? According to this article from Ariana Bindman, a News Feature Reporter from SF Gate, the spongy moth can and would trash home values if not dealt with due to climate change, according to scientists and researchers.
I’ve been asked a few times to find other ways people can help Los Angeles during the fires. I posted about two weeks ago, but here are some different ways to help LA provide by visitcalifornia.com
Here’s a couple just for an example: Groove for Good with Insomniac
Now through Jan. 31
Create Art for Fire Relief

Arrange Florals for Wildfire Recovery in Newport Beach
Feb. 4
For our last story, I thought I would share this one from discoverlosangeless.com about spending three days in downtown Los Angeles. However, with the fires still going on, you may want to wait until everything is over and it’s safe to drive, visit, and enjoy the sights.
I don’t think they were thinking about fires when this was posted, or the post was posted before the fires, but it’s worth reading and saving for when the time is right.
From Visit California here are 12 ways you can attend to support Wilkdfires Relief in the coming weeks.
