Good Morning Friends!
Updates:
As always, we’re changing a few things. If you didn’t hear the podcast the other day, I'll let you in on the news.
We are stopping the podcast as of this week, and write a few lines instead about the updates we’ll send on Tuesday and Thursday.
Were you a fan of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel? Well, I was and will always be one of those guys who brag about both of them together or solo.
I had the great opportunity to meet both when they were together and when they went solo. However, I have seen Paul more times than Art.
Over the many times I saw Paul in concert, whether in a big venue or a small café in New York, we got to know each other.
Another plus to this was when he married Edie Brielle, another great singer in my book. Many times at these little shows, I was able to hang out backstage and meet and talk with her.
This is happening due to researchers at Stanford University, who helped him regain his hearing.
He’s coming back after many years of retirement, and Timothy Karoff, Culture Reporter, SF Gate, has the entire story here.
If speed is your thing and you’re not getting enough of it driving on California highways and back roads, then Karen Palmer, Contributing LA Food Editor, has a story for you.
Ms. Palmer had the opportunity to feed her need for speed by checking out the Porsche Experience Center and dining at its location while enjoying a 917 Hamburger at its location—one of two in the United States.
Speed doesn’t one heap either, just like a speeding ticket doesn’t.
Teenagers nowadays are great at taking on protests about almost anything. If you didn’t already know that, this story proves it.
In 2023, a group of teenagers fought the giant cruise industry by blocking their ships from docking in Monterey. They succeeded in protecting the bay from disasters and spills.
Olivia Harden, Travel Reporter from SF Gate, has the complete story here.
One of the best trips Patti and I have made in the past few years was a trip to Monterey to go whale watching.
We still talk about that trip like it was yesterday when it was a few years before the pandemic.
According to the Captain of the boat, who was telling us what we might see on the trip, we picked a perfect day.
At first, we paid more attention to the weather, as a possible rainstorm was heading our way, but at the last minute, the winds blew it in a different
Once the sun came out, the whales surrounded our boat, and we could watch them feed on fish from the bay. It was truly amazing.
Then, a couple of orcas filled in the gaps from whales and dolphins following us, making the trip even more exciting.
Monterey isn’t the only place to see whales, either.
Silas Valentino, Travel Editor for SF Gate, has a story about bar stools and whale watching in Ole’s Whale Watch Bar on the Mendocino County Coast
What’s the deal with this burrito filled with french fries, carne asada, and sour cream?
Is it strictly a San Diego thing, or is that where it was created?
I, for one, am not an expert on burritos—I never have been—but I would like to one day understand their fascination.
Coming from the East Coast, before I moved to California, there weren’t many Mexican restaurants in Rhode Island or Boston.
New York had its share, but the burritos weren’t authentic, nor did they taste like California burritos.
So, when I saw this article, I had to share it with you.
Farley Elliot, the SoCal Bureau Chief, went on the hunt for the birthplace of the California burrito in San Diego.
