I post a ton of stories about everything Disneyland. It makes sense since it plays an important role in the makeup of California.
But we also have Universal Studios, Legoland and a host of fantastic zoos and aquariums.
I’ve left out one attraction which was my first when I visited California for the first time. We hadn’t been to Disneyland on our visit. That was planned for a few days later. Instead we went to Knott’s Berry Farm.
I panned for gold, met some interesting characters from the west as watched a stunt western show with shootouts between the bad and good guys. Of course we ate great food, shopped the Knott’s Berry Farm jams, jellies and other good stuff as well as kiddie souvenirs.
Which is why I am posting this first post about the new and improved Knott’s Berry Farm with a totally revamped hotel. They didn’t have a hotel when I visited.
Enjoy this read from Samantha Davis-Friedman (contributing Editor-Theme Parks) of Travel Age West.

I always enjoyed Friday Attitude Adjustment Hours, actually known as Happy Hour. There were many a Friday evening when I would plan a trip for the coming weekend. Of course, this was when I lived on the East Coast, and we didn’t have issues with flooding on the main travel route, I 95.
Since I moved here, there have been many weekends when Highway 1 has certain parts of the highway closed down due to flooding and landslides. It doesn’t make it convenient for travelers, whether me or tourists from other countries.
I know we can’t control the weather, and things happen. It’s just that it happens a great deal and pushes tourists away.
The following story from Andrew Pridgen, Central Coast Editor from SF Gate, tells the story of Max Bostma and Larissa Hodnik from the Netherlands. Enjoy the read.
P.S. I’m especially partial to Harmony, just outside of Cayucos, my favorite on the coast.

The first time I visited Aptos, I didn't know what to expect from this tiny city on the coast. We were visiting family there for the first time, and with the directions we were given, we didn't see the beauty of the coastline or understand why Aptos was famous.
We were driving through a wooded area with homes high on the hillside. Beautiful, to be honest, but then we drove to the coast, about two minutes away, and it was breathtaking.
I'll admit I had no issues pronouncing the name. Of course, that's probably due to everyone in the car pronouncing it correctly.
It's what I would call a sleepy town/city. It's exciting to visit, especially downtown, but don't expect wharves, rollercoasters, or amusement parks.
It was as peaceful as any sleepy town/city should be. It was quaint, like some of the towns and cities on Cape Cod back east. I felt right at home.
But enough with my take on Aptos, here's what Silas Valentino, Travel Editor for SF Gate, has to say about Aptos and why it's famous.
Aptos is world famous, but nobody in the Calif. coastal town knows why
