Hi Friends!
Starting today, we’ll feature a missing persons report at the bottom of the newsletter in the Before You Go section. There have been so many times we’ve wanted to do this; we figured with so many incidents of missing persons, it was time. Please make a point to check it out.
Thanks.

Hotels are a dime a dozen, but good hotels are rare in locations that are not otherwise considered.
I mean, take, for instance, Bakersfield. Who would think one of the nicest California hotels is in downtown Bakersfield?
The Padre Hotel, built in the late 20s and opening its doors in 1928, has almost everything you could want in a hotel. Here's from the article.
It's a nice place to meet for a drink, or several drinks. It's a nice spot to recommend to family or friends who are coming from out of town. It's nice to have a staycation there if you just want to get out of the heat. It's nice for a long lunch, a date-night dinner or as a backdrop for your wedding day.
This is according to Andrew Pridgen, Central Coast Contributing Editor, SF Gate.
I believe it's safe to say it's time to boost Bakersfield and the Padre Hotel.

Keeping with historical places…
Nick’s, a restaurant with some history with a fantastic Crab Sandwich.
Nick’s dates back to 1927, making it older than Pacifica itself (the city was incorporated in 1957). Charles Gust, a young immigrant from Greece, first opened it as the Rockaway Cafe, selling sandwiches, peanuts and candy to fishers and beachgoers. The business burned down twice in its early days, but Gust rebuilt each time.
In 1948, his son Nick Gust and wife Lorraine Pendola took over the business, remodeling it and transforming it into a full-service restaurant. Nick died in 2013 at the age of 92, and Nick’s is now on its third generation of ownership, with his son Chuck Gust at the reins.
Madeline Wells, Senior Food Reporter, SF Gate, has the complete details and crab sandwich review.

This post is a little late to the game for possibly camping this weekend, but there are still some great weekends left for camping, and this spot may fit your interest.
Swimming holes, redwoods to gaze at, first come, first served, no reservations policy, and it's 270 miles north of San Francisco.
It's family and pet-friendly, so it sounds like the perfect spot, right?
Let's let Ashley Harrell, California Parks Contributing Editor, tell you the rest of the details.

You're in Ventura, California, and you're looking for something to do exciting with the family.
You decide to check out some state parks, and Channel Islands National Park, just 20 miles away, stands out with its ocean views and other natural, exciting things to visit there.
Then you check it out and find out it can cost $300 for a family of four to get there. Is it worth the trip now?
Let's let Eric Rode, Contributing LA Outdoors Editor, SF Gate, give you a reason or two to say YES!

Who doesn’t like sea lions? Watching them from afar, listening to their bellowing and enjoying their carefree lifestyle.
But these creatures become pests when they gather in herds that are taking over a local beach.
