Good Morning! It’s March 1st. Sea Lions, Horror, Chateau Marmont

Good Morning Friends!
It seems that Malibu's sea lions have more to deal with than the fires in LA.
Toxic algae in the waters of Malibu is sickening sea lions.
Over four days, the California Wildlife Center received numerous calls about distressed sea lions.
Domoic acid is an algae bloom that can be benign or toxic.
If sea lions consume contaminated fish, the toxic algae in their brains will make them ill and distress them.
SF Gate has the complete story here.
Do you enjoy a good horror movie every so often, or are you into watching horror movies all the time?
In college, a friend and I would live and die to see the latest horror flick at the nearby theatre.
The theatre showed new and old horror flicks every Saturday evening at midnight. It was packed, and you had to get there early to get a seat.
We even devised an idea for a movie. We decided to try to get a few friends from a nearby college few students at our college we knew who were into film and filmmaking to make the film. It never happened, but they liked the concept.
That’s why we posted this story today.
Dark Delicacies sounds like a fascinating candy bar, but if you think you should try it the next time you’re in a store, you can’t buy it and forget about it because it isn’t a candy bar.
It not a candy bar or a decadent dessert at a five-star restaurant.
No, it is a horror shop in LA that has been there for 30 years and will close on April 5th.
Head to Burbank if you dare to check out the shop.
You can read the entire story here from SF Gate reporter James Bartlett.
While writing about some stories in Southern California, we thought we’d post this last one about Chateau Marmont.
I always thought it would be cool to stay at the Chateau just one time. It’s on my bucket list.
I am a John Belushi fan. We had a chance meeting in Martha’s Vinyard once when my mom and dad decided we should go there for a couple of months during the spring of 1976.
Belushi was in the cast of Saturday Night Live and was just becoming a star.
It was an encounter I’ll never forget. I was still using crutches from surgery, and my parents and I were eating lunch when he walked into the restaurant with his wife, Judy.
They walked in and were seated next to us. So I leaned over and excused myself for bothering them, but I wanted to let him know I enjoyed his schtick on SNL.
He thanked me and said, “Thanks for not bugging me for an autograph.”
He shook my hand and introduced us to his wife while I introduced my parents, who didn’t know his celebrity status.
What I remember most about him was that he was gracious and humble, which was different from his TV antics.
This story from Paula Mejía, Contributing LA Culture Editor, SF Gate, will provide background and history on Chateau Marmont.
Saturday, we posted a story about pizza that I commented on. I know I was hard on the opinion, but that comes with the territory. We’re fans of pizza and love trying out new places. We even tried to get the pizza shops in Fresno to come together for a Fresno Challenge. It didn’t happen, but I keep trying to get this contest going called Pizzapocalypse to make Fresno’s own style pizza instead of claiming to be New York style, but that’s another story.
We haven’t tried this spot out since we’re about 3 hours away. That doesn’t mean we won’t try this place out in the future, but for now, you’ll have to decide if you want to try it out from the story on SF Gate by Jessica Yedegaran, Food Editor.
I hope you don’t mind if I close with a local story.
Fresno has the Fresno Fair every year. When I first moved here and met Patti, she told me about the fair, and it sounded great.
Back East, I had never been to a country or city fair. I never had the time or interest to go due to the crowds, and I was just not that interested.
The Fresno Fair is no different than the ones I back east, I presume, except now I was older and wanted to go.
Since then, we’ve been taking the kids and grandkids on daytime adventures that occasionally extend into the evenings.
What made the fair fun for Patti and me was the horse racing. Now, that’s a thing of the past.
Here’s the full story by Daniel Gligich, SV Sun.
