California is the new bagel capital of America by Farley Elliott and Eater Staff
California has gone big on bagels in recent years, thanks in part to a glowing profile of several Los Angeles and San Francisco spots in the New York Times. Thankfully, Los Angeles is more than capable of living up to the hype, with trucks, shops, delis, and strip mall setups spread across the Southland serving fantastic bagels. While folks may eye-roll at the Courage Bagel lines or the weekend crowds at Yeastie Boys, there’s no denying that Los Angeles is suddenly a bagel city. (6) US 101 decreasing speed limit in Monterey, San Luis Obispo counties
By Silas Valentino from SF Gate
A portion of Highway 101 on the Central Coast is decreasing its speed limit from 70 mph to 65 mph on Aug. 25 in an effort to offset fatal and injury collisions in Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties, but as anyone who’s ever landed a speeding ticket will tell you, 5 mph can sometimes be a costly difference.
The conditions are conducive for speeding; CHP said that an engineering evaluation of the corridor showed a recent uptick in fatal and injury collisions in both counties. “The CHP in King City reported that 71% of their citations for driving over 100 mph occur in this corridor,” the agency wrote in a release.
