CM #36: Stuff Not To Miss, Road Trips, Food & Drinnk

Hi Friends!
I was going to write something novel and exciting, but what you really want is to get into the newsletter so here you go.
We do want to thank you for coming back week after week to read, share, and enjoy the newsletter.
Have a great weekend and week. Be Well! Stay Safe!
Mark & Patti
P.S. We’re coming up on “7” years of publishing this newsletter. How time flies. Thanks to M.G. Siegler of 5ish for inspiring me to get going on this journey originally on Revue.

I always loved when we went on road trips. They weren’t always fun in the sun, but they did lead to some great stories. I could write about every trip we took as they were all memorable, but I’ll let this post from Atlas Obscura do the work for me. Enjoy!
(1) 6 Winding Tales of Epic Road Trips
SUMMER IN THE UNITED STATES means it’s time to hit the road in search of adventure, so we navigated the Atlas Obscura archive to find the best road trips stories, from the very first car journey from coast to coast 120 years ago, to the fastest ever (25 hours and 39 minutes) to one of the worst in history. And then there’s all the unexpected sites you’ll see along the way.
Speaking of road trips, how about 28 of the best road trips out of Los Angeles when you’re visiting and sich of the traffic jams, or if you live there and are sick of the traffic snarls? Either way, it may be time for a road trip now.
(2) 28 BEST DAY TRIPS FROM LOS ANGELES IN 2023
Written By: ThePlanetD Team
Los Angeles is impossible not to love. From the Pacific Ocean waves backdrop to the intensity of Downtown Los Angeles, it is a city you will want to return to again and again. There is also so much to do and see, from the iconic Hollywood Sign to Hotel del Coronado and more than one theme park to get your thrill on. Snuggled into the coastline of southern California, Los Angeles is one of the best-located and world-famous destinations in the US. And if you are visiting, it would be a crime to avoid enjoying some of the day trips from Los Angeles.
You must be getting hungry by now with all of this driving so let’s check out places to eat while driving around the state of California or just locally.
(3) Sekoya Opens on California Avenue
Sekoya is the newest restaurant from Steve Ugur, the co-owner of San Mateo’s Pausa, and he’s running this restaurant alongside his uncle Sean Ugur, a restaurateur in his own right who was a part-owner of Cafe Pro Bono just a few blocks away on Birch Street for 18 years. With luxurious dishes such as chicken liver mousse served with savory doughnuts, gorgeous drinks, and an overarching tree theme running throughout, the new restaurant has Ugur feeling confident about the future.
If by chance you find yourself near Disneyland and California Adventure, you may want to check out their dining accommodations, which are many from what I read in this article.
(4) Dining at California Adventure: A Complete Food Guide
If there’s one thing you’ll find at Disney California Adventure Park outside of thrills and characters, it’s delicious food. Home to Disneyland Resort’s annual Food and Wine Festival, California Adventure is a dining destination that offers an array of restaurants you’ll want to try more than once – and there’s so much variety! If you’re wondering where to start, we’ve got your guide to all of the food at California Adventure, from restaurants to snack carts and everything in between.
Of course, if you’re at Disneyland you might just want to pop on for a visit, especially if you have kids aboard. I mean it is the “Happiest Place on Earth” according to them and many others.
(5) How early can you actually get into Disneyland? I found out.
By Julie Tremaine (SF Gate)
There are two types of Disneyland guests: those who get there the minute the gates open, and those who stay until close. You might think you’re both of those people, and maybe you are, but only for one day, two at most. No one on this planet, no one, can sustain that kind of grind for an entire Disney vacation.
And finally, a place to eat and wet your whistle as you rest from all the road-tripping you’ve been doing. I mean, you do need sustenance at some point, right?
(6) New San Francisco cantina slated to open at former Nick’s Crispy Tacos space
By Susan Guerrero (SF Gate)
After a brief soft opening in May, chef-owner Daniel Tellez expects to officially open Taco Rouge on Aug. 22 at 1500 Broadway. Tellez hopes that Taco Rouge will create an exciting neighborhood hangout spot where he plans to host live music events and serve Mexican fare.
“I always wanted to do a honky-tonk cantina concept,” Tellez told SFGATE. “When you walk in, it gives you that sensation of what a cantina should be. You have this space for live music and a lot of space to dance — at some point, it becomes a dance floor.”
