Lost, Then Found, Then Lost Again, and Then Found Again. The Tale of a Tooth
One day, at least 10,000 years ago, a mastodon strolling near a California beach lost a tooth (or possibly died there). Many millennia later — last Friday, to be exact — a tourist was strolling along the same stretch of sand and saw it, photographed it, and then lost it again.

Vegan Food at Taste of India in Buttonwillow, California, Population 1339
Taste of India in Buttonwillow — population 1,339 — has always drawn my eyeballs to its red pavilion-style roof and simple advertising. Words of encouragement — “try our vegan food” — appear on the rooftop in white lettering.

Making Up One’s Mind About Banning a Street from Traffic in Santa Barbara
State Street’s pedestrian-friendly shift rose out of the early days of the pandemic. Since the emergency closure of the street to car traffic on Memorial Day weekend 2020, 10 blocks of the city’s main downtown corridor have been blocked off to car traffic so area businesses, especially restaurants, could reopen and operate outside.
