Hi Friends!
This week we’re venturing into caves around California, among other things. We’re also trying a new layout, and in a big announcement, our first issue of Shoot the Breeze went out the other day. Subscribe if you want to catch the next Breeze out sometime soon!

SEE/DO!
We’re leading this week with some caves. to check out. Here’s a little on cave decoding from Atlas Obscura and something on kayaking sea caves from Josh at California Through My Lens.
Atlas Obscura: All caves carry an air of secrecy: they hide beneath the surface of the earth, in quiet possession of natural wonder. That secrecy can be a bit intimidating, particularly for those with speluncaphobia, or a fear of caves and tunnels. But if you take some time to explore a cave and all its quirks, you can learn quite a lot about not just how the cave came to be, but how the world around it came to be, as well.
California Through My Lens: Santa Cruz Island is one of the many Channel Islands, which are located off the coast of Southern California. The island is home to stunning coastal hikes, thousands of years of history, and many great kayaking opportunities. We got a chance to do a kayaking trip with Channel Islands Adventure Company in May 2023 and had a blast exploring the island’s coast and going into sea caves. Here is all the information if you want to have this experience yourself.
EAT!
What would be a week seeing and doing things without places to eat? We’ve got you covered, so there are no worries. To start, how about 26 places to eat from South San Francisco to Mountain View, as reported by SF.Eater!
Los Angeles seems to be the king of pop-ups and LA.Eater has a list of the hottest pop-ups happening right now.
LA Eater: It’s hard to think of a time when pop-ups weren’t a part of Los Angeles’s dining fabric. Aside from offering some of the most creative meals in town, these ephemeral events can sometimes provide a preview of up-and-coming brick-and-mortar restaurants. Over the past decade, these makeshift businesses have grown in popularity to become an integral part of how Angelenos eat and drink today. This is a periodic compilation of notable one-off and ongoing pop-ups.
SF Eater: Nestled under San Francisco lies the Bay Area Peninsula, a nearly 30-mile stretch of land between the city and the South Bay Area. The dining options in the region also span everything from myriad fine-dining restaurants worth the splurge to takeout spots where diners can grab a quick bite on the go.
DRINK!
Don’t worry, we didn’t forget drinks you may need while eating and adventuring around the state.
In South Pasadena, a couple of friends got together and created something special. The South Pasadenan has the details.
USAToday has you covered for beer and hot dog prices if you’re a baseball fanatic and plan on visiting a few ballparks this year .
USA Today: It's no secret that stadium food isn't always the cheapest, but beer and hot dogs can cost you a lot more based on where you buy them − as much as three times more.
USA TODAY obtained hot dog and beer prices at 28 MLB stadiums, highlighting which stadiums have the cheapest and most expensive value options. Prices were obtained via teams, food management companies or independent verification.
South Pasadenan: JungleTime® Jungle Juice was created by two friends from La Canada, California – Noah Hirshon and Liyu Sun, who wanted to capture the essence of the popular party drink, Jungle Juice, and turn it into a convenient, ready-to-drink beverage. With extreme precision, they have crafted each flavor to have the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness to give you that “fresh out of the bucket” taste every time.
EXTRA, EXTRA!
There’s always something happening in my hometown of Fresno, and FresYes covers it the best of anyone. Here you go.
FresYes: Hold on to your meatballs and loosen your waistbands because Fresno is heating up this weekend, both in temperature and tantalizing activities! As the sun turns up the thermostat and brings forth a wave of warmth, our fair city is bustling with excitement. This might be the perfect opportunity to try a new Patio Dining place, right?
