California Mishegoss #15: A Bunny Cafè, $6.00 Lunch, and Dinner with Mickey and Family

Good Morning Friends!
Thanks for reading today’s Edition. A belated Happy St. Patricks Day. We hope you had fun. We’re celebrating today since I wasn’t up to cooking yesterday. Better late than never, right?
Enjoy today’s edition. We added a place to visit a little North of California for the adventurous.

A Lunch at This 117-Year-Old Restaurant Costs $6.00
There’s a buzz at the 117-year-old Takahashi Market in San Mateo. The local institution has been the go-to mom-and-pop shop for customers in search of hard-to-find Hawaiian and Japanese staples like pork lau lau, fresh poi and manju, which are generously stocked inside the tiny space. But for the past 17 years, the Bay Area grocery store has become more famous for its coveted $6 lunch.
The Original Taco Bell Building
IRVINE, CALIFORNIA, ISN’T THE PLACE where the first Taco Bell opened (that would be Downey, a city about 30 miles northwest of Irvine), but Irvine has something a bit stranger to its name. Since 2015, a nondescript parking lot behind the Taco Bell headquarters has been the home of the original Taco Bell building.
When in the Bay Area, You May Want To Hit a Craft Fair
The Bay Area is home to a vibrant group of artists and craftspeople, or “makers” as they're often called, who are devoted to producing small-batch, locally made goods. The pandemic was a difficult time for such makers, without the network of marketplaces and retail spaces to sustain them. Many turned their attention to e-commerce; others simply buckled down and rode it out. Unfortunately, some were forced to close up shop.
Having Dinner With Mickey, Mini, and Goofy
Character dining is a staple of the resorts, and Disneyland offers some especially tantalizing options. From a breakfast served courtesy of chef Goofy to a fantasy meets fancy feast fit for royalty, Disneyland character dining is a long-remembered highlight of any visit to the "Happiest Place on Earth." With an autograph book in tow, it’s your chance to receive guaranteed personal time with Disney’s iconic cast of characters.
A Bunny Cafè on the Way to Los Angeles
Los Angeles is getting its first ever Bunny Café, coming to Woodland Hills for a limited time.
The café is not like any normal coffee shop. The Bunny Café is a place where customers can go enjoy a nice cup of coffee, food and treats all while hanging out with cute furry bunnies.
That’s right, real rabbits will be at this café for customers to hang out with while they enjoy their drinks and food. The café will be open beginning March 25 and be open until April 29.
Sculptures by Ricardo Breceda
Ricardo Breceda had no training in art, welding, or engineering -- he was a cowboy boot salesman -- when he began sculpting in 2001. He built his daughter a life-size T. rex out of scrap metal for Christmas, and just kept going. He's best known for his 130+ dinosaurs, prehistoric mammals, and one giant Sand Monster that populate the desert floor around Borrego Springs.
Bay Area Arcade Taqueria is Ready To Take Over the World
Wedged in the back of a dimly lit arcade, you’ll find one of the best taquerias in Oakland.
Just past the glowing marquee of the Fox Theater on Telegraph Avenue is the entrance to Emporium Arcade Bar. Scoot past the couples on first dates flirtatiously playing Skee-Ball or mashing buttons on the dinging pinball machines. Stop for a drink at the bar if you must, but don’t get distracted — your end goal lies in the very back.
Outside of California
Visit Seattle With This List of Things To Do
I cannot think of a better time to visit Seattle than in the spring before the crowds and hotel prices peak. Not only is there easy access to the mountains and the bay, but this city is a great choice for people who want a walkable urban adventure. The main hub is the city's downtown area with a plethora of shopping, restaurant, and museum options. The Emerald City, as Seattle is also known, sits on the Puget Sound with a bustling waterfront. Miner’s Landing Pier 57 is best known for the iconic Ferris wheel that juts into the skyline, along with numerous other amusement rides and games.
One Last Thing…
We hope you enjoyed this week's California Mishegoss, even though it was calorie-laden. Maybe it's what the good doctor ordered; then, maybe not.
Either way, enjoy your weekend and the week ahead.
