California Mishegoss #10:

Hi Friends!
We know we post more about San Francisco than we probably should, but there is always so much going on that’s published and sounds interesting compared to some other spots in the state.
We’re not saying LA, San Diego, the Central Valley, and Northern California don’t have exciting things happening, but it seems we get more info about the Bay Area than most.
Trying to locate articles, not behind paywalls, also stops us from posting from other locations, whereas Sf Gate has no problem giving us free access. Weird.
We promise to keep looking out for more free stories converting all of California to share.

Eclectic Islands Around San Francisco You Should Check Out!
from the article:
“Whether you’re a local or a visitor, each of these islands is unique, and there’s always something new to see. From protected wildlife sanctuaries and pristine beaches to eclectic cities and historic architecture, these are the nine best islands to visit in the San Francisco Bay Area.”
Want to Climb Mt. Whitney? The Lottery Is Now Open
from the article:
“This spring, experienced hikers might score the chance to cross the tallest mountain in California (and the lower 48 states) off their bucket list. The Mount Whitney lottery opened on Feb. 1 for the 2023 season, and the competition will likely be fierce.”
Want Some Fresh Seafood in San Francisco?
from the article:
“On a recent foggy Friday morning, I woke up at 7 a.m., filled a cooler with ice and drove to Fisherman’s Wharf.
This may sound like the decisive actions of someone who knows what they’re doing, but the truth is that I’d been at Target at 9 p.m. the night before running around like a chicken with its head cut off. “
Driving the 395? Here Are Some Stops You Don’t Want to Miss
from the article:
“U.S. Route 395 is one of California’s most beautiful drives, stretching 1,305 miles from east of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Southern California all the way north to the Oregon border. Compared to the Golden State’s other big draws, like the Pacific Coast Highway or the Redwood Highway, Route 395 is less traveled but certainly doesn’t lack in scenery and things to do: Ghost towns, filming locations, ski resorts, tufa formations, and more await along this scenic stretch.”
Thinking of Staying at the Disney’s Star Wars Hotel? It Might Be The Perfect Time
from the article:
“The Galactic Starcruiser, which opened on March 1, 2022, only has 100 rooms, but has consistently struggled to sell out. Disney billed the pricey hotel as an immersive journey where guests became part of the Star Wars story, interacting with costumed actors and being sent on missions. The cheapest two-night stays were initially priced at about $5,000 per couple and closer to $6,000 for a family of four; guests are required to book exactly two nights, as the storyline of the Starcruiser spans two days.”
What Would Disney Be Without a Mickey and Minnie Ride?
from the article:
“The dark ride, which is part of the large-scale Toontown renovation that is set to debut in March, opened early for the Disney100 celebration. The event marks 100 years since the founding of the Walt Disney Company, commemorating “100 years of wonder,” as the company describes it.”

It’s Isn’t the Magic Castle, but It’s a Place To Stay That’s Different and Cheap
from the article:
“The army base in southern Monterey County sits on nearly 170,000 acres of mountains, valleys and meadows with its main entrance about 25 miles west of Highway 101 near King City. But what makes it unique are the two historic buildings on the base that are open to the public: Mission San Antonio de Padua and the Hacienda, which was built by famed architect Julia Morgan for newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst.”
