Road Trips Galore
“We were blown away by beach everywhere,” says Gabrielle, a Tampa-based blogger who brought her brother on the vacation, too. “When we drove from city to city, at first I thought wow, two hours to get from one city to another? How will the kids do with that? But not one time was it bad. They’re looking out the window and they’re just seeing beach for every bit of the ride.”

How About the Coast?
On a spring day in Santa Cruz, visitors have a perplexing opportunity: to see a city thriving and shrinking, all at once.
The thriving is no great surprise, really: Santa Cruz sits on a handsome perch at the northern edge of the Monterey Bay, neighbored by redwood forests. It has been attracting heat-fleeing visitors from inland California since at least 1907, when the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk opened.

Maybe a Visit to Some Historic Film Locations?
Set against the backdrop of Yosemite National Park with historic gold rush towns and scenic landscapes, Tuolumne County makes for the ultimate filming destination. Over 350 productions have been filmed in the county since 1919 and visitors can take a trip down memory lane at Jamestown’s “Walk of Fame”, with 31 medallions celebrating the rich history of the movies and TV shows filmed in Tuolumne County. Discover some of the iconic filming locations that remain tourist attractions today, featuring in family favourites such as Back to the Future III, Little House on the Prairie and Petticoat Junction.

Places to Bed Down
After a long day of travel, we're sure you will want to bed down for a bit, and here are a few ideas for that.
California encompasses 840 miles of coastline, from sandy beaches to craggy cliffs; 33 million acres of forest land, home to sequoias, redwoods, and pines; 352 mountain ranges, from the Sierra Nevadas in the east to the Coastal Ranges in the west; three major deserts; and more than 427,000 acres of grape vines. As a traveler, it can be difficult to choose just one vacation vibe. Even locals can’t decide: completing the “California Double” — surfing and skiing or snowboarding in the same day — is a great source of state pride.
Is San Diego in Your Plans?
San Diego’s Balboa Park is ranked among the best tourist attractions in the U.S., according to a new study.
Family Destinations Guide looked at 50 of the most popular tourist spots in the nation — based on annual visitors — and compiled a listing of some of the best and some of the worst, after examining TripAdvisor 5-star/excellent reviews.
One Last Thing…
We hope you enjoyed this week's California Mishegoss, even though it was calorie-laden. Maybe it's what the good doctor ordered; then, maybe not.
Either way, enjoy your weekend and the week ahead.
